Your rights as a borrower
June 20, 2017
If you’re a homebuyer or a new homeowner, you probably know your credit score. You might even be a tiny bit obsessed with it (and for good reason, really). But do you know your credit rights?
Knowing your rights and legal protections as a borrower is an important part of managing your credit. Here are six federal laws that definitely come down on your side as a consumer, and how to take advantage of them.
Have your rights been violated?
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) provides information about credit regulations and consumer protection, and it enforces the law. To learn more or file a complaint, go to www.consumerfinance.gov or call 855-411-2372.
You might also be able to file a complaint locally by contacting your state attorney general, consumer protection division.
